Chawalit Plaphol...“Mission Accomplished”

“I really have been working hard on my game. I have spent a lot of time on the driving range working things out. Today was tough as I had quite a big lead and in the hot weather it is really hard to keep concentrating”,
Chawalit Plaphol

An extraordinary spirit must have dominated the Thai Chawalit Plaphol for the last two months as he won two of the three ASEAN PGA/Mercedes-Benz Tour series he had taken part .

After celebrating a wire-to-wire victory at ICTSI Mt. Malarayat Championship in the Philippines last June as his first ASEAN PGA’s title, he was again showing his power at Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore at Laguna National Golf and Country Club, Singapore last August 14 by
taking the lead for The previous three weeks in his own country, Plaphol stunningly placed his name at the top of the leaderboard at Singha E-San Open for three days, though he finally had to allow his compatriot, Thaworn Wiratchant overtook him the last day.

In twelve rounds that he played, Chawalit Plaphol only missed one round. This is a distinctive record in Mercedes-Benz Tour/ ASEAN PGA events and it seems that no players can match it for the next few years.

Chawalit Plaphol’s name is not new to the contenders in Asian region. But his victorious winnings this year have been his first comeback ever since this 35 years-old made a poor form in the last two years.

Charging five stroke over the two runner up Panuphol Pittayarat and Lam Chih-bing (T2 ) , Chawalit earned the prize money of US$9,750 as well as placed himself in leading the Mercedes-Benz Tour/ASEAN PGA
“Spreading the message of blind golf is very important to me. When I took up the game myself I had the opportunity to play with a blind golfer. He had such a positive outlook on life which I was so impressed with that, I decided to get involved in promoting the sport”, Dr. Handa said about his activity.

Last August, he signed a partnership with the Asian Tour Executive Chairman, Kyi Hla Han to stage a new Asian Tour series entitled The Handa Singapore Classic which is planned to take place at Orchid Country Club and Marina Bay Golf Course-Singapore next 9-12 September 2010.

This US$ 400,00 event will be preceded by a Pro-Am tournament on September 8 which will field a team of blind golfers showcasing the appeal of sport.

To Dr. Haruhisa Handa, , supporting the Asian Tour through the organizing of The Handa Singapore Classic is not about business. He said that ISPS has been known as a non-profit organization whose focus is on the charitable activities through sport events especially golf. They have been sponsored European Senior Tour, Faldo Series Asia, Legends Tour, Japan Golf Tour and now Asian Tour.
