Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand
Juvic Pagunsan,
Stormed To Victory
In Phuket
“I hit really good today
just like the last two days.
Before I came to Phuket
I was working on swing
changes with my coach
Junced in the Philippines.
Mainly working on the
backswing. Some small
changes”, Juvic Pagunsan
here is a special note about this
Filipino golfer, Juvic Pagunsan , who
is one of the golfers in Asia that has
owned a wealth individual victories.
Though his achievement may not be
recorded as one of the brightest as Thongchai
Jaidee or Thaworn Wiratchant, the golf career
of this player, born in Bacolod city, November 5,
1978, could be noted as a smooth one in every
stage of his accomplished journey in golf.
A year after winning the gold medal for individual
in 2005 SEA Games in his home country as anamateur, Juvic opened his professional career
with a sweet triumph as the 2006 Asian Tour
Rookie of The Year. In the following year, he won
his maiden Asian Tour title at 2007 Pertamina
Indonesia President Invitational in Jakarta and
also was the winner of a biggest local tour in
Malaysia, Negeri Masters.
Juvic kept his constant achievement within
the year 2008 by placing his name in the 10
big zone three times in one season, including
as the runner up at Singha Thailand PGA
Championship behind the Korean golfer Mo Joong-kyung. In 2009 he held his accomplished
status at the 10 top of three
|
Asian Tour series
which are Asian Tour International, Singha
Thailand Open and Iskandar Johor Open, as
well as settled the fourteenth position at 2009
Barclays Singapore Open .
In this 2010, Juvic completed his career by
winning his first Mercedes-Benz Tour title at
Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand, last June 4 at
Laguna Phuket Golf Club. It could be said that
Juvic has completed his winning collection in
Asian region during his impressive golf career.
Starting the final day with 4 stroke-lead ahead
from his close competitors, Pattaraphol
Khanthacha and the winner of Singha Pattaya
Open, Udorn Duangdecha, Juvic stormed up
to finally close his game at 19 under par 261
with no one came close to it.

about his victory.
“Sometimes I can play really bad and go
backwards, but that’s golf”, he said, smiled
happily.
Indonesia , represented by 6 touring pros,
only left three players in the weekend players
list, Rory Hie at 28th, Benny Kasiadi at T30 and
Sarmilih KZ at T35. While Hardjito, Burhan Bora
and Zulharmen Tabusalla could not make it the
2 over cut line on the second round.
“The green is really good, only to reach it with
a certain calculated shots was really hard . Its
fairway is narrow and water hazard dominated
its edge. On this kind of course, we cannot
just estimate the shots, we have to focus and
be certain of it,” said Sarmilih who is currently
ranked 54 ASEAN PGA Order of Merit.
What Sarmilih said was rightly proved , when
the local player Ratsak Hansapiban who led the
first round with another three

players by an
impressive score of 5 under par 65 , had to bury his hope in the last round in the second day.
He lost his focus and earned 8 over par 78 and
lost his chance to be in the final round list by
missing one stroke of the cut line, 2 over.
With this victory, Juvic Pagunsan elevated to
the third position at ASEAN PGA Order Of Merit
below Jay Bayron at the first rank and Thai,
Udorn Duangdecha who was the runner up at
this fourth series of Mercedes-Benz Tour.
